Very true - I have bamboo sheets on my wish list! Because buying new is not only not renewable - but not frugal! But maybe as a treat for my birthday (in July!). Love the market and picnic idea! Wouldn't it be great if we could find a "trade your old cotton sheets in for new bamboo ones sale?"

These are great ideas. I wish I could afford new bamboo sheets--but lets not forget--that no matter what, buying new things--even if they ARE renewable--is less green than reusing what you already have or buying second hand. I know it's not sexy, but it IS greener! My husband and I always have a hard time getting out with two young children. We get a babysitter for our older child and bring our baby on a walk (still nursing, so can't leave him long) to the market on Saturday, buy some local organic food, spend the morning browsing the market, perhaps get some local fresh flowers and candles there, then return home and prepare a meal together and eat it picnic-style on the living room floor. It's cheap, green, and very bonding.
